Smiley faces (2007)

This film is bad. On every level. It made some nice attempts are looking good and brought in many famous names. But it really wan't worth the money or effort needed to create it.

Shall we say a few words about Brevin Ericson? Shall we say a few words about love? For Brevin Ericson is completely, 100%, head-over-heels, in love. Perhaps it's difficult for you to comprehend how anybody could be so passionately-inclined toward someone like this.

This film was awful from the get go. It is full of cheesy, horrible writing, poor acting from most people and an absolutely stupid storyline. The story follows Jane F (Anna Faris) a drug addict who eats her house mates cupcakes, not realising they are laced with drugs. She goes to buy new ones, finds out she owes several hundred dollars to her drug dealer and travels across a whole city for the day looking to get money, pay her dealer the money and get home. In the mean time she goes to an acting audition where we see Jayma Mays and Jane Lynch. For those of you out there who don't know, these two actresses are now starring as rather important characters in Glee.

There are other big names throughout this film, including Roscoe Lee Browne, Danny Trejo and Rick Hoffman. For these three actors it seems like a big step backwards in their careers. A very big step backwards. For the two ladies of Glee, this film was made before Glee started and they were the best actors throughout the whole film. Faris was poor in this film. Yes, she was meant to play someone who is stoned, but the acting rarely changed. It was bland, boring and ridged. Her character though, is the worst thing about this film.

She is poorly designed. She is your typical blonde, in every way it seems. She can't drive, she doesn't think straight and does random, stupid things. She babbles on about things and thinks she is saying something else. Aside from this, the most annoying thing about her, is the fact she clearly is intelligent. Which goes against everything they have portrayed about her. She uses big words to show she knows about what she is talking about, then follows it up with a stupid line or action.

This then confuses the message of the whole film. Is it saying that you become stupid because you take drugs? It definitely is saying though that you will get in debt if you use them constantly, and have everything taken away if you don't pay your debts.

Aside from the anti-drug message, this film tries to be funny. And bless it, it does try so hard. But it just falls flat with nearly every joke it makes. The closest thing to a smile this film got from me was from Jane Lynch's one scene. The final 'nails in the coffin' for this film were definitely the music and special effects they used. The special effects look cheap and tacky while the music is overly dramatic for this film, and for most dramatic films. It is used for tiny little things happening to make them seem even more important and scary then they actually are, but aside from that I just found it pointless.

I liked the star appearances once I had gone through the stage of thinking 'What on earth are they doing with their life'. The only big name I could understand was Trejo, as he has been in so much trouble with the law, and drugs in particular, before turning his life around after serving a fair amount of time in prison. The film made some nice attempts at looking good, and there are a couple of nice shots, but everything else about this film was a let down.

I beg anyone reading this, please do not watch it.

Sorry this sin't a very big review, I just wanted to get this film out of my life once and for all. I feel that it is the worst Film I have ever seen.

Rating; 2/10
