'Once a seed is sown, how far would you go?'
These Black Mirror reviews will be short because these films were shorter than most others as they were TV films.
As with all Black Mirror films this was a very thought provoking looking into a possible future for humans. This film looked at love and emotions and how people react when they lose a loved one. The new technology introduced into this film is the ability to recreate somebody after they have died using all the data you posted on the internet.
Needless to say, it starts all cute, happy and romantic with a young couple living together, until he goes out and has a fatal car crash. Things carry on as normal for a bit, until a friend recommends a new app which copies people based on all available information. It starts off simply as a messenger like service with a picture and only text posts available but develops to a voice service where she can call the machine and actually talk to it. From that point on some clever twists are thrown into the mix and everything changes.
The acting throughout this is generally of a good standard. I feel there is a little over acting at time from the lead actress (who plays Martha) and her performance, although good, isn't to a completely believable standard. Other acting in the film, and her less emotion scenes, are done really well.
Most of this film is set inside a countryside cottage which is fully utilised so it doesn't feel the same. When the scenes are based out of the cottage, the locations look fantastic which really helps to emphasise what the characters are going through at that time. When Martha has just left the room with the casket the shots put her close to the edge, just outside the normal boundaries, helping to show how closed in and claustrophobic she feels at that point.
The plot is strong and very well thought out, with no visible point mistakes. It is a short flick compared to many films but well worth a try. For those that cry often at love films, you may find yourself in a waterfall of tears at certain points as it can get very emotional. The music used matches well with the scenes and everything slots together nicely. It does feel a little rough around the edges, as some points more than others, but it isn't so bad the film is completely ruined.
Rating; 7.510
